How We Review
TrueTropical evaluates software based on practical usefulness, not marketing claims or affiliate value. The exact process varies by product, but the principles remain consistent.
What we examine
Depending on the product, we consider core capability, ease of use, workflow quality, reliability, limitations, pricing, value, and fit for the intended user.
Testing and research
Some reviews involve hands-on testing. Others rely primarily on research, documentation, pricing information, and comparisons. We identify the testing type and scope so readers can tell what we personally tested and what was established through research.
Research for our reviews is done with AI assistance. The decisions are human: we choose what gets reviewed, decide what goes into each article, add our own content, and approve everything before it is published.
How ratings work
Our rating summarizes the practical quality and value of the product for the use case examined. It is not a popularity score, feature-count score, or measure of affiliate value.
The most important criteria for a product's intended use carry greater influence than secondary criteria. A product with more features does not automatically receive a higher rating.
| Criterion | What we assess | Typical importance |
|---|---|---|
| Capability | How well the core functions perform. | High |
| Ease of use | Learning curve, setup, interface, and workflow clarity. | High |
| Workflow | Efficiency and practicality in real-world use. | High |
| Reliability | Consistency and dependable operation. | High |
| Limitations | Important restrictions, weaknesses, and compromises. | High |
| Value | What the product delivers for its cost. | High |
| Fit | Suitability for the intended audience and use case. | Context-dependent |

What affects the final rating
The final rating reflects the evidence available and the relative importance of the criteria for the specific use case. We do not apply the same practical priorities to every type of software.
Evidence matters
We do not treat missing evidence as positive evidence. When an important aspect cannot be adequately verified, we aim to make that limitation clear rather than presenting an unsupported conclusion.
Pricing and verification
Pricing, plans, features, and other time-sensitive information can change. We aim to verify important commercial details and identify when information was last checked.
Affiliate independence
Affiliate relationships help support TrueTropical, but they do not determine coverage, ratings, comparison results, or recommendations. A product without an affiliate relationship can be the better choice.
Ratings can change
Software changes. When substantial changes affect practical value, we may update an article and revise its rating.
Our standard
The rating is the summary. The review is the reasoning behind it. We want both to remain useful even without affiliate links.
