Quick verdict

Best for
Newsletter creators and publishers who want to publish to email and web, grow an audience, and offer paid subscriptions from one platform.
Not ideal for
Teams needing a full marketing CRM or complex behavioral automation, or publishers who need a flat price regardless of subscriber count.
Starting price
$0 (Free, free forever)
Key strength
Newsletter publishing, web presence, recommendations, and paid subscription tools are integrated into a creator-focused platform.
Key weakness
Several growth and monetization tools require a paid plan, and paid-plan pricing rises with the publication’s active subscriber tier.

beehiiv combines newsletter writing and email distribution with a hosted website and tools for growing and monetizing an audience. The Free plan is free forever and includes unlimited email sends.

Writing, publishing, and audience growth

beehiiv is designed for publications where the newsletter is the main product. A post can be published to the web and sent to subscribers from the same platform, while the website and analytics provide a home and feedback loop for the publication. Every plan includes newsletter, website, podcast, community and digital products tools, and the Free plan adds landing pages, email templates and the recommendation network, so a creator can build a publication without paying for a plan.

Paid plans add more growth and revenue options. Lite adds paid subscriptions with a 0% take rate, ad monetization, automations, A/B testing, audience polls and beehiiv MCP. Pro adds removal of beehiiv branding, webinars and coaching, advanced analytics, AI credits, webhooks, dynamic content and 24/7 priority support. Those features can make beehiiv convenient for a publication business that wants its publishing, audience tools, and monetization in one place.

Fees and subscriber-based pricing

beehiiv advertises a 0% platform fee on paid subscriptions. That means beehiiv does not take a platform commission; Stripe still charges payment-processing fees, currently described by beehiiv as 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction.

Lite and Pro pricing depends on the number of subscribers. At 1,000 subscribers, Lite costs $49 per month ($39.20 per month billed yearly) and Pro costs $95 per month ($76 per month billed yearly), and the cost rises as the list grows. Enterprise is custom-priced for advanced security, support and infrastructure needs. Use the live pricing calculator for the list size and billing cycle you expect; the price at 1,000 subscribers is not a reliable estimate of the cost at scale.

The Free plan includes unlimited sends and the recommendation network, but not automations, paid subscriptions or ad monetization. According to the pricing page, Lite and Pro can be tried for free without a credit card.

Automation and support

Automations are a paid feature, starting with the Lite plan. beehiiv’s tools are aimed at newsletter publishing and subscriber journeys; businesses that need extensive CRM data, complex lifecycle triggers, or deep sales workflows may need another platform alongside it. Available reviews often praise ease of use and support, but the evidence base is uneven: Capterra’s sample is small, and aggregate ratings or review summaries should not be treated as representative benchmarks.

There is not enough reliable evidence here to claim a particular inbox-placement rate or superior deliverability. Sending volume, sender setup, list quality, and recipient providers all affect inbox placement, so platform-level claims should be kept separate from measured outcomes.

Verdict

beehiiv is a strong candidate for creators who want to publish a newsletter and website, build an audience, and add monetization without stitching together several services. Its main trade-off is that useful growth and revenue features start on paid plans, while paid-plan costs rise with the active subscriber count. It is less suited to a business looking for a general-purpose CRM or highly complex marketing automation. Check the current subscriber-tier price and include payment processing fees in any monetization calculation.

Email sends are unlimited on the Free plan. Lite and Pro prices depend on the number of subscribers; the pricing page shows prices for a chosen subscriber count and does not state a subscriber cap per plan, so check the live calculator for your list size. Automations, paid subscriptions and ad monetization require Lite or higher. Removing beehiiv branding, webinars and coaching, advanced analytics, webhooks and 24/7 priority support require Pro. Prices for paid plans depend on the number of subscribers; check the live calculator for the applicable tier.
