How this review was made
TFor pricing, features and security this review draws on ClickUp’s own pricing and feature tables (ClickUp pricing page, checked 27 Oct 2026), its published security information, and patterns in verified user reviews.
What ClickUp is
ClickUp is a work-management platform that tries to hold a team’s whole workflow in one place: tasks and subtasks, docs, whiteboards, chat, forms, goals, time tracking and dashboards. Work is organised in Spaces, Folders and Lists, and the same tasks can be shown as a list, board, calendar, table, Gantt chart, timeline or workload view. That flexibility is the main draw, and the main reason it takes time to learn.
How the main workflows work
Tasks sit at the centre. Each can carry assignees, priorities, dependencies, custom fields, time estimates and checklists, and users describe commenting on tasks and docs in one place instead of juggling separate tools. Automations handle repetitive steps such as changing a status or notifying someone, and an AI assistant covers writing, summarizing and search. Larger teams can add goals, portfolios, dashboards and resource planning on top.
The free plan: generous, with real limits
Free Forever has no time limit and allows unlimited tasks and unlimited free members, which is unusual for the category. The limits are specific: 60MB of shared storage, five Spaces, five active automation rules with 100 runs a month, and trial-style access to features many teams use daily, including Gantt charts, dashboards, custom fields and time tracking. For one person or a small team managing plain tasks, that works. If you attach files or lean on automations, the limits arrive quickly.
Paid plans and what to check
On the standard price list, Unlimited removes the storage and Space limits and adds unlimited Gantt charts, integrations, custom fields and time tracking. Business adds dashboards, workload management, webhooks and Google sign-on with a larger automation allowance. Enterprise adds SAML sign-on, SCIM, audit logs and HIPAA availability. Prices are in the Pricing section above.
Two things need checking before you buy. ClickUp also shows some workspaces a newer lineup under different plan names and prices, so confirm what your workspace is offered. And upgrading applies to the whole workspace, so one power user cannot be moved to a higher tier alone.
What users report
Verified reviewers on Capterra rate ClickUp 4.6 out of 5 and praise its collaboration and the way it centralises work. The recurring complaints are consistent: slowdowns and lag, a mobile app that trails the desktop version, a steep learning curve, and an interface some find overwhelming. G2 reviewers add that useful features sit behind plan limits. These are user opinions, not tested facts.
Who ClickUp suits
It fits teams that want one customisable workspace and will spend time configuring it: small business teams, agencies, project managers and power users replacing a patchwork of task lists, docs and trackers. The free plan makes it an easy first step for solo users and very small teams.
Who should look elsewhere
If you want a tool that is simple on day one, a lighter board-first or more guided product may serve you better. Teams that rely on mobile work or expect quick response in very large workspaces should test performance with real data before committing.
Before you choose
Test it with a real project rather than a template. Check the automation allowance on the plan you would actually need. Confirm which plan lineup and price your workspace sees, and budget setup time for new team members.

Frequently asked questions
Question: Can I upgrade only some people to a paid plan?
Answer: No. ClickUp says upgrading applies to the whole workspace, so every member moves to the new plan and price.
Question: Is ClickUp secure enough for business data?
Answer: ClickUp publishes SOC 2 and ISO 27001, 27017, 27018 and 42001 certifications, and encrypts data in transit and at rest. Data residency, SAML SSO, SCIM and HIPAA availability are Enterprise features, and reports are available from ClickUp sales on request.
Question: How is ClickUp’s AI priced?
Answer: On the standard price list, ClickUp’s AI assistant is a separate per-user add-on, and heavier AI features draw on usage credits. On the newer lineup, monthly AI credits are included, rising with the plan. Check which lineup your workspace sees before budgeting.
